Superstition Eyrie

fiefdom of
Sir Vincit Morraine ap Eiluned
Knight of the Evening Star

Superstition Eyrie is an outpost of the Duchy of Firebird in the Kingdom of the Burning Sun. An ancient freehold founded in the Age of Travel and long abandoned through later years, it was rediscovered by a young knight of House Eiluned who used his expertise in both archaeology and Arts of Glamour to locate its hidden rath. Rewarded for his ingenuity with a fiefdom from the hand of Duke Erecles ap Gwydion, Sir Vincit has made the Eyrie a haven for scholars of faerie magic and a stronghold of his chivalric order, the Knights of the Evening Star

Hidden in the rugged wilderness of the Superstition Mountains that rise above the town of Apache Junction, Arizona, the freehold lies just beyond the Mists upon the cusp of the Near Dreaming. Accessible only from a tortuous footpath which winds upward from a state-maintained hiking-trail, the rath connecting Superstition Eyrie to the Autumn Lands appears to mortal eyes to be no more than a sheer stone face marked with a few crude petroglyphs.

Even the Enchanted sight of the kithain sees little to indicate the portal, unless one knows which glyphs to trace with one's left forefinger by moonlight, causing a fine silver outline to gleam around the secret door. Thus revealed, the rath may be opened with the Wayfare Art, provided the changeling has learned it. Failing this knowledge or a Treasure to serve in its stead, one must wait until the sentinels within the freehold open the gate from inside.

Beyond the Mists: Inside the Eyrie

Once opened, the Rath reveals a narrow, curving passage which ascends a shallow grade widdershins for three-quarters of a circuit past a narrow guardroom before opening onto a spacious if windowless antechamber, its floor worked in an intricate mosaic of black and white tiles with a spiralling design of stars and crescents, it's high walls hung with fine tapestries showing an astrological motif. From here, doors in each wall open respectively into a receiving chamber to the left, a courtyard garden open to the sky directly ahead, and a steep stair leading to a watchtower observatory to the right. Stone benches padded with cushions of black velvet and ornate silver tassels provide a place to wait while one is announced. The soft lighting of the antechamber sifts down from overhead where a lantern wrought in the likeness of the full moon casts its pearlescent sheen over all.
